Forum connecting coffee industries in VIETNAM and ITALY

Unione del Porto and Coind cooperatives as actors in the Italy-Vietnam Business Forum dedicated to coffee

Legacoop participated together with two associates cooperatives Unione del Porto and Coind in the Italy-Vietnam Business Forum organised on 9 October in Turin by the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy.

The event highlighted the strong relations between the two countries, both historically and economically, with a special focus on the coffee sector.  The event was opened by the Vietnamese Ambassador, SE. Duong Hai Hung, and the Deputy Mayor of Turin Mrs. Michela Favar, that emphasized the strong ties between Vietnam and Italy and Vietnam's central role in the global coffee market, as the world's second largest exporter of Robusta.

The forum offered an opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges that the coffee market is facing internationally. Among the challenges were rising coffee costs and prices, logistical difficulties related to geopolitical crises, and adaptation to the new European deforestation directive. Italian and Vietnamese cooperatives discussed the possibilities of connecting to meet these challenges, implementing innovative, sustainable solutions and guaranteeing relations with producers, continuing the strong collaboration and cooperation between the two countries.

The cooperative from Liguria Regon, Unione del Porto, a key player in the logistics of the port of Genoa for the import of coffee, was invited to give evidence of its activities and the relationship that has bound it to Vietnam since its foundation. The cooperative movement then participated through Coind, a central player in the processing and marketing of coffee in Italy, which was able to strengthen relations with the main Vietnamese business partners in the sector during the Forum.

The synergy between the cooperatives present and the visibility of their participation benefited from the support of Haliéus, Legacoop's development cooperation structure, currently engaged in the implementation of the YouCool project , in partnership with the Vietnamese Alliance of Cooperatives, which promotes the exchange of good practices between Italian and Vietnamese cooperatives active in the coffee sector, supporting the digitisation process in the supply chain in response to global challenges. The forum represented a strategic opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Italy for our companies, looking to the future with an increasingly sustainable and technological approach.
